New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel achieved the rarest of rare feats as he took all 10 wickets to fall in India's first innings in Mumbai, on day 2 of the second Test at the Wankhede Stadium. Ajaz Patel became only the third player in the history of Test cricket to do so on Saturday. He joins England's Jim Laker and former Indian captain Anil Kumble to dismiss 10 opposition players in an innings. Ajaz continued his fine bowling performance from Day 1 where he claimed four wickets. On the morning of the second day of the ongoing Test against India, Ajaz once again tormented the Indian batters and spun a web around them to take the remaining six wickets.
Ajaz ended with figures of 10 wickets for 119 runs in 47.5 overs. The fall of the 10th wicket will forever be etched in the minds of the New Zealand players with Mohammed Siraj skying the ball only to be caught at mid-on.
India were all out for 325 runs in the first innings with Mayank Agarwal ending as the top scorer with 150 runs. Axar Patel also scored a fighting half-century -- his maiden in international cricket.
Jim Laker had picked up the all ten in the second innings of the 4th Test match against Australia in 1956 at the Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester. Laker had in fact picked up 19 wickets in the match, as he had ended the first innings with figures of 9/37 and the second with 10/53.
Anil Kumble's all 10 came in the memorable second Test match against Pakistan in New Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, now named Arun Jaitley Stadium, as he finished with figures of 10/74 in the second innings, having picked 4 wickets in the first.
Patel's effort on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium has gone down as the third best bowling figures in an innings in Test cricket as he returned with figures of 10/119.
The left-arm spinner bowled 47.5 overs in India's first innings to achieve this rare feat.
