Yuvraj Singh stars in comeback, India beat Australia by 6 wickets in T20
October 11, 2013 00:19
India rode a scintillating 35-ball unbeaten 77 by Yuvraj Singh to beat Australia by 6 wickets in the only T20 international at Rajkot on Thursday.

Australia were put in to bat at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. Left-handed opener Nic Maddinson was making his international debut and he impressed by taking the Indian bowling apart. He scored 34 from 16 balls with the help of 6 fours and a six. He shared a quickfire 29-ball 56-run stand with Aaron Finch for the first wicket. Indian bowlers were sent on a leather hunt from the outset. (All BCCI images)

Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck first for India, removing Nic Maddinson.

Vinay Kumar turned out to be the most efficient bowler for India, taking 3 for 25 in his 4 overs. He took the important wickets of Aaron Finch, Shane Watson and skipper George Bailey.

Aaron Finch continued on his good recent form in international cricket and hammered a swashbuckling 52-ball 89 that was laced with 14 fours and a six. His innings took Australia to a challenging score of 201 for 7.

Indian's were not off to the most fluent start after having lost Rohit Sharma in the very second over of the 202-run chase. Suresh Raina was the second wicket to fall after a brief knock of 19.

India's in-form opener Shikhar Dhawan played a consolidating knock but just when he was looking to take the game away from Australia, he was out stumped off Xavier Doherty. Dhawan made 32 of just 19 balls.

Dhawan's fall of wicket brought comeback man Yuvraj Singh to the crease. The left-hander meant business straightaway, not allowing the Australian bowlers to settle down. After the fall of Virat Kohli for 29, Yuvraj unleashed an array of strokes that makes him one of the dangerous middle order batsman in limited-overs cricket.

Yuvraj was ably supported by India skipper MS Dhoni in the chase. The two shared a quickfire 102-run unbeaten stand that took the hosts to a 6-wicket win. Dhoni ended at a 21-ball unbeaten 24 and Yuvraj with 35-ball 77*.
