India may have taken the series against Sri Lanka and a solid batting performance - barring the display in the second ODI - has defined the performance of the visitors. What however has stunned fans is the disastrous form of Rohit Sharma.
An accomplished batsman who has shown his talents for the national side before, Rohit played each of the five matches against Sri Lanka, only to take 13 from the series. This is the lowest score by any specialist Indian batsman in a five-match bilateral series. While team-mates like Gautam Gambhir have maintained that Rohit is a talented prospect whose form may have only temporarily eluded him, most fans however are calling for his head.
Batsmen do have phases when they cannot get their bat to meet the ball. The understaing on social sites is that when it happens, a batsman is given some opportunity to regain his composure failing which he is dropped. "If player of the series is decided on consistency, Rohit takes the prize this series," read one tweet.
Rohit's tally from the series reads: 5-0-0-4-4. "Bowled, bowled, LBW, LBW and bowled. Conclusion: No difference between Rohit Sharma's legs and the stumps. Both don't move unless hit by a ball," said another tweet minutes after his dismissal on Saturday.
While Indian batsmen have been raking in runs by the dozen, Rohit's contribution has been negligible and the popular consensus is tilted in favour of dropping the player and letting someone else prove his mettle.
