Indian bowlers dominated the first session of the play as they clinched quick wickets to wipe out the Aussie tail. Siddle and Haddin resumed the day looking to extend their stand, but Zaheer and Ashwin finished off the tail a few overs before lunch.

Zaheer Khan was the pick of the Indian bowlers, taking 4/77 as Australia were bowled out for 333.

Ben Hilfenhaus gave Australia the first breakthrough when he had Gautam Gambhir (3) caught behind by Brad Haddin.

After Gambhir's fall, Virender Sehwag along with Rahul Dravid provided the much needed impetus to India's innings.

On his innings of 67, Sehwag reached another milestone of becoming the 5th Indian player to reach 8,000 Test runs. He achieved this feat when he scored his 20th run with a single off a Siddle-delivery.

Sehwag fell to James Pattinson after scoring a quickfire 67. He was, however, dropped twice on 54 and 58 respectively.

Sehwag's fall brought in Sachin into bat and the expectation of his 100th ton. The "Little Master" played some signature cover drives and an audacious upper cut over the slips for six off Siddle's first ball after tea.

However, Sachin Tendulkar faltered again to reach the magical feat of reaching the 100th ton. This time, he placed his front leg well behind the popping crease. It was a fuller length delivery on the off stump by Peter Siddle, Tendulkar came forward to drive and the ball nipped in a shade to escape between bat and pad and hit the top of the stumps.

The foundation of India's reply was a solid 117-run third wicket partnership between Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid (68 batting) after Sehwag's quickfire innings.
Zoom
Sachin, however, achieved another milestone of completing 64th Test match fifties. With this half-century he has overtaken Allan Border's tally and set a record for most fifties in Tests.
Zoom
Rahul Dravid, second only to Tendulkar for most Test runs, was unbeaten on 68 after getting a reprieve on 65 when he was bowled by a Siddle no-ball.
