Chris Gayle picked up from where he had left off against Australia as he smashed his second fifty of the tournament. His 58 from 35 balls contained 6 fours and 4 sixes in an opening stand of 103 in just 11 overs.

Charles Johnson started off slowly, but soon got his eye in and was smacking the ball to all corners of the ground. Johnson's 84 came off just 54 balls which included 10 fours and 3 sixes which set up the West Indies for a big total.

Only Stuart Broad was able to stem the flow of runs taking 2/26 in his four overs that included a maiden. His controlled bowling made the Windies end up at 179/5 in 20 overs. While it could have been much more, a target of 180 would be a challenge for England's star-studded batting line-up.

Ravi Rampaul struck a double blow as he removed Craig Kieswetter and Luke Wright off successive deliveries to leave England two down for no score in the first over.

Alex Hales went on the attack from the start as he hit 68 runs from 51 balls five fours and 2 sixes. However he did slow down in the middle which made the required run-rate go up even more.

Eoin Morgan came win and stepped up a gear from the word go. While he was there England still had a chance and the West Indies could never relax despite having runs in the bank. Morgan made an unbeaten 71 from 36 balls hitting 4 fours and 5 sixes.

However, England just left it too much at the end and some disciplined bowling from the West Indies when it mattered did not help the English cause either. They finished off at 164/4, 16 short of their target. West Indies will take confidence from this win into their next game while England shall reflect on where they went wrong.
