Sri Lanka showed no sign of nerves after their narrow win against New Zealand as they trounced the West Indies by 9 wickets to virtually seal a place in the semis. It was a complete performance by the hosts and they hardly gave an inch to the Windies.

Nuwan Kulasekara struck a vital blow for the Lankans when he removed Chris Gayle for just 2 runs to his name. West Indies were in trouble at 16/2.

Marlon Samuels came to the recue as he hit 50 from 35 balls that contained 4 fours and 2 sixes. While he was at the crease there seemed hope of the Windies reaching a substantial total.

Dwayne Bravo also looked to cut loose scoring 40 runs from 36 balls. Unfortunately the boost came a little too late and they could only manage 129/5 in their 20 overs.

Skipper Mahela Jayawardena led from the front smashing 65 not out from 49 balls with 10 fours and 1 six. His mindset made it clear that Sri Lanka were in a hurry to get it over with.

Kumar Sangakkara gave Mahela the support he needed scoring a quick 39 not out so despite Dilshan's early departure they could make light work of the modest target.

In the end the Lankans scripted a well polished 9 wicket win and are now on top of their game going into the last Super Eight clash with England. West Indies will have to start from scratch as they take on New Zealand next.
