New Zealand storm hit West Indies and hit the team hard!

New Zealand chose to bat first early into a Wellington afternoon. It was a good decision as some massive explosions were to follow.

Brendon McCullum scored 12 before falling in the fifth over but West Indies joy was short-lived.

Dropped on 4 by Marlon Samuels, Guptill made most of his lifeline to stitch together a confident knock.

The confidence soon translated itself into a commanding knock as Guptill completed his 50 off 64 balls.

At the other end, West Indies did manage to remove Kane Williamson (33) and Ross Taylor (42) but they were mere hiccups in an otherwise fluent Kiwi innings.

Guptill switched gears effortlessly and it was time for carnage soon.

The opener smashed 100 off 111 and then reached 150 in 134 balls.

West Indies had no clue what hit them as sixes flew by the dozen.

Guptill plundered 137 runs off the final 52 balls he faced. He became the 1st Kiwi to score a double ton in ODIs and soon overtook fellow legends to become the second-highest ODI scorer ever.

Guptill also became the highest scorer in this edition of the World Cup.

Such was the power of his effort that New Zealand eventually posted a mammoth 393 on board.

West Indies chase began on a strong note but regular wickets meant that the team were never really in control.

Trent Boult was mainly responsible for chipping away at the wickets.

Once Gayle left though, it was only a matter of time before New Zealand sealed the match.

New Zealand eventually bowled out West Indies inside 31 overs to set up a semis clash vs South Africa.
