That's it from us here, do join us for the third ODI on 22nd December, until then, good bye and take care.
Man of the Match Angelo Mathews says that they have a very good amount of talent. Sangakkara and Chandimal played brilliantly to set things up, Malinga and Kulasekara bowled well to restrict Pakistan to 280 as at one stage they looked like getting more than 300. Adds that they need to keep fighting and play their best cricket in the next match.
Misbah-ul-Haq says that the pitches at Dubai produce good scores. At one stage they were ahead but one or two bad overs really cost them the game. Adds that they need to focus on the field for the full hundred overs. Mentions that Sri Lanka are a good team and that the game is on in the third ODI!
Angelo Mathews kept the runs flowing. With 4 runs required off the last over, Afridi turned it around again with the wicket of Mathews but Senanayake kept his calm and powered Sri Lanka past the finish line. Junaid Khan was the pick of the Pakistan bowlers with three wickets.
But it was Saeed Ajmal who turned the match around for Pakistan as he scalped the wicket of Sangakkara and then Junaid Khan removed Perera and Chandimal in quick succession. Just when it seemed Pakistan were on top, Mathews along with Kulasekara brought Sri Lanka back in the game with a 57-run stand for the 6th wicket but Afridi had Kulasekara stumped and then Junaid cleaned up Prasanna.
Pakistan were propelled to a competitive total thanks to a brilliant century from Shehzad and cameos from Misbah and Afridi. Chasing the target, Sri Lanka started off well as the openers added 49 but then lost two quick wickets to run outs. Sangakkara and Chandimal then steadied the ship and added 94 runs for the 3rd wicket.
What a game. It swung from one side to the another and in the end, Sri Lanka held their nerves better. Hats off to Mathews who really played a captain's knock.
Shahid Afridi to Sachithra Senanayake
FOUR! SRI LANKA WIN BY 2 WICKETS AND 2 BALLS TO SPARE! Landed outside off, Senanayake just uses the pace from Afridi and guides it to the third man fence between short third man and backward point! End of an exciting match and the 5-match series is now level 1-1!
Short outside off, 102 kph, cut straight to point. 2 needed from 3 balls...
All the fielders come in. 2 needed from 4 balls...
Full outside off, driven through the covers for a couple.
SACHITHRA SENANAYAKE walks out at number 10, replacing Mathews. 4 needed from 5 balls.
Shahid Afridi to Angelo Mathews
OUT! Dear o dear... are we going to witness a twist in the tale? A long hop, 98.5 kph, deserving to be sent to the boundary and finish off the match but Mathews pulls it straight to Misbah at short mid-wicket instead!
BOOM BOOM SAHIBZAADA MOHAMMAD SHAHID KHAN AFRIDI to bowl the final over. 5-0-40-1 so far. He has got just 2 runs to play with. Sri Lanka need 4 to win.
Junaid Khan to Angelo Mathews
Backs away to the leg side, Junaid follows him, and Mathews can only push it towards long on for another single. 12 from the over!
FOUR! Klller blow! That should seal the deal for the Lankans. Full outside off, Mathews leans and absolutely crashes it over covers for a boundary! This has been one captain's knock.
Junaid Khan to Dimuth Karunaratne
Full outside off, 143.4 kph, Karunaratne swings hard but gets an inside edge towards mid-wicket. One more to the total. 9 needed from 8 balls now.
Pushes this towards covers for a run.
NO BALL! A high full toss, Karunaratne gets across to flick but gets hit on the glove. Takes a single.
Oohh... a short ball on middle, Mathews pulls it towards mid-wicket. Sharjeel Khan gets to the ball and fires a throw at the non-striker's end but misses. Mathews dives in.
