Dominic John Thornely Profile

Australian Dominic Thornely is a genuinely aggressive batsman who has the right techniques with his drives, cuts and pulls. He hit a solid 801 runs in the 2006-07 season domestic season for the New South Wales. In the following season, he gained a bit more responsibility while scoring 551 runs and picking up 11 wickets.

Nicknamed 'The Dominator', Thornely represented Surrey in 2005 and then moved on to play with Hampshire in 2007. He was signed by the IPL franchise Mumbai Indians in 2008, where he could not feature in the majority of the games. Recognized as a highly capable player, Thornely was always considered a Test potential player but could never cut it in, in spite of scoring wonderfully, 1065 first-class runs at an high average of 62.65. The gaping hole left by the Waugh brothers, top-order batsman Michael Slater, and Michael Bevan, was filled by this talented batsman who played a crucial role in the Pura Cup. At the age of 25, he made his maiden domestic century, scoring 145 against Victoria. Being a regular feature in the winning unit of Sydney Sixers at the inaugural Big Bash League, Thornely was included in their T20 squad for their first Champions League T20 outing in 2012.
