It has been an extremely frustrating morning for New Zealand. At the start of the day, they were hopeful of restricting Australia to 300. However, it did not go according to plan for them, as Cameron Green and Josh Hazlewood kept the Kiwi pacers at bay. The hosts did not help their cause and were all over the place with their lines and lengths, allowing the Aussie batters to have it their way. The heads began to drop for New Zealand as Tim Southee was left scratching his head to find the last wicket. Due to their in-out fields, Green was able to manoeuvre the strike and frustrated the Kiwis even more. Moreover, the Kiwi bowlers gave away as many as 41 extras which sums up the inconsistencies in their lines and lengths. Matt Henry was the standout for New Zealand, ending with a five-wicket haul. The hosts will have to put this first session behind them and start afresh post-lunch. The Kiwi openers will face a stern test first up with the new ball and it will be interesting to see how they fare against the Aussie pace trio. Join us back in a short while to see how it all pans out in the second session.

SESSION SUMMARY - 104 runs, 30.1 overs and 1 wicket. Australia have finally been bowled out for 383 but the first session here on Day 2 has well and truly belonged to them. Having begun the day with an overnight score of 279, Cameron Green and Josh Hazlewood got together and piled the misery on the hosts. Green picked up where he left off on the opening day and continued to tick along nicely. Hazlewood gave a good account of his batting potential and was prepared to hang in there. Green used his smarts well to shield Hazlewood and soon got to his 150. The two Aussie batters were even helped by the lack of intensity shown in the field by New Zealand. Even after getting to the landmark, Green put his head down and stretched the total alongside Hazlewood. The duo put on 116 runs for the 10th wicket, the highest last-wicket stand in Tests by any team against New Zealand, to propel their side's total over 380. Hazlewood's long vigil eventually came to an end as Green remained unbeaten on 174.

OUT! TAKEN! Matt Henry breaks through for New Zealand. He gets his fifth wicket and Australia have been bowled out for 383. Henry comes in from over the wicket and goes full, around off, Josh Hazlewood gets lured into the drive as he looks to hit this one on the up. He stays leg side of the ball and reaches out to play the shot. Ends up chipping it straight down the throat of Rachin Ravindra at mid off where he reverse cups it in front of his face. That will also be LUNCH on Day 2!
