So that's it from us. We have come to the end of a one-sided affair. And since Sri Lanka chased the target down in less than 40 overs, they have got a bonus point. The Islanders next face the men from the Caribbean on 16th November at 1300 IST in Harare. We hope you join us for it. Till then, cheers!
Sri Lanka captain UPUL THARANGA credits everyone for playing so well. Feels the bowler did a great job and they stuck to their plans. Says the plan was to bowl the right lengths.
Man of the Match, DHANANJAYA DE SILVA says the ball was moving around in the first 5-6 overs. Adds he enjoyed batting with Kusal Perera and Niroshan Dickwella.
Zimbabwe captain GRAEME CREMER feels after losing the toss it was tough to bat on. Admits it was not a 150 wicket and they should have taken the total at least till 220. Hopes they will come back hard in the second game. Feels the catching was the positive today.
The odds were always against Zimbabwe. They needed a miracle to pull something off here. With not much to defend, the Rhodesian bowlers were dealt with a bad hand. They tried hard and did their best, but it was always going to be difficult. Earlier in the day, a brilliant collective performance from the Sri Lankan bowling department restricted the Zimbabweans to a paltry score.
Sri Lanka have won this match comfortably. It was expected, really. With only a target of 155 to chase down, and with the quality of the batsmen in their ranks, you would have always tipped the Islanders to clinch it. Dhananjaya de Silva was the man who led the charge. He started things off with Kusal Perera with a 56-run stand and then, when Dickwella came into bat, the pair just kept on going. Niroshan just missed out on a fifty while de Silva remained unbeaten on 78. An 84-run partnership was stitched between these two.
