Anya Shrubsole, the skipper of Southern Brave Women, says that it's good to get a win on the board. Praises Beth Mooney for her knock and also adds that Danni Wyatt showed what a good wicket it was for batting. Feels that the target was probably par, they thought. Further says that it was a good score but if the batters get in, it was nearly impossible to defend. Talks about their batting firepower and depth and informs us that Tahlia McGrath will be there for the next game. Mentions that they will try to be flexible with their batting as they go deep into the tournament. Also says that she really enjoys playing and calls it an amazing tournament and predicts it to be a high-scoring season.
Danni Wyatt (65 off 34 balls) is the Player of the Match. Says that she is happy to contribute and it's nice to make a winning start. Tells that her job at the top of the order is to be brave and fearless. Mentions that it's a quick outfield and she just used it to her advantage. Shares that she is trying to get stronger in the gym and is addressing her power game, more than finesse for this format. Praises the bowlers for restricting London Spirit Women to a gettable total on a lovely wicket for batting.
Presentation time...
Earlier in the match, Beth Mooney impressed one and all in her debut knock in The Hundred (Women) and missed out on a hundred by a whisker. Her efforts helped London Spirit Women to 155 but that did not prove to be enough. The bowling from London Spirit Women was not up to the mark and they were quite sloppy on the field as well.
A powerful batting show by Southern Brave Women to overhaul the target. Danni Wyatt and Smriti Mandhana laid the perfect platform with their opening stand, and from there on, there was very little pressure on the Brave. The Spirit did find a spirited fightback by removing Danni and Maia Bouchier in quick succession, courtesy of some brilliance from Amelia Kerr. Still, they failed to stop the flow of runs and allowed yet another stand to develop between Sophia Dunkley and Georgia Adams. Sophia and Freya Kemp provided the finishing touches as Southern Brave Women registered an easy win.
