That's all from this game! The Tridents end their tournament on a high while the Tallawahs have plenty to think about before the semi-finals. The final day of the league stage will be played on Sunday, the 6th of September, 2020. The action begins with the clash between the Knight Riders and the Patriots followed by the clash of the Tallawahs and the Zouks. Join us for that at 1000 local (1400 GMT). Until then, cheers and take care.
Jason Holder, the Tridents' skipper and the MAN OF THE MATCH, says that it was a good performance and a good way to finish the tournament. States that they played a really good game and it was a better wicket than before. States that they were always losing wickets early and it was a good opportunity to get quick runs in the Powerplay. States that Carter played a really good knock and he told Jonathan to stick it out. Says that they needed a set batter to stay in and Carter did that.
Jamaica Tallawahs skipper, Rovman Powell says that the changes in batting order went well but they were 15-20 runs short. Powell feels that in the middle overs, they did not score much as they had 50 in the Powerplay. Tells seeing Blackwood come in a new position and score was more satisfying as they know the ability of Russell. Tells their spinners not being able to take more than one wicket in this game was critical. Powell hopes that they can rectify and try and sort things in the next game before they play the semi-final.
Earlier in the afternoon, after opting to bat, the Tallawahs put up a decent total of 161, courtesy of a well-played 74 from Blackwood and Russell's power-hitting 54. That though was not enough for the team from Jamica to defend on a good batting wicket. It was a collective bowling performance from Barbados Tridents as 4 bowlers picked one wicket each.
A disappointing bowling display from the Tallawahs. They had a decent score on the board and started off well picking up two wickets at the start but from there things just fell off. McSween started the game brilliantly but then just fell off a cliff. The returning Oshane Thomas, got a wicket but struggled too. Lamichhane was the pick of the bowlers, being economical and also giving them a glimmer of hope by getting rid of Holder. That though was not enough as the Tridents managed to play the Tallawahs bowlers smartly.
Chasing 162, the Tridents once again got off to an abysmal start losing two wickets in the first two overs. The skipper, though decided to take the mantle in his own hand and lead from the front. He came out with intent and his 69 off just 42 balls took the pressure off Jonathan Carter who was struggling at the other end. Carter fought off those issues and took charge after the skipper departed. Him along with Santner ensured that there was no embarrasment tonight and the side got over the line with relative ease.
It's over, it is finally over. All the Tridents fans, finally something to cheer about in this tough year as the pain, frustration and agony is finally over. The defending champions have ended their 4-game losing streak. It won't be enough to save their season but it has given their loyal suppporters something to cherish. A lot of things for the Tallawahs to work on. They have another game to figure out those things before they take on the mighty Trinbago Knight Riders, who will be their opponent in the semi-final which has been confirmed with this loss.
