That's a wrap to the fourth T20I. Australia have avoided the ignominy of a whitewash with this victory and would be now aiming to make it 3-2 before flying home. Bangladesh though would want to hold the trophy after winning for one final time in the series. Who will come out on top? Do join us on Monday, 9th August 2021 to find out. The first ball will be at 6 pm local (12 pm GMT) but you can join us in advance for the build-up. Cheers!
Matthew Wade, the Aussie skipper, smiles and says that they have worked hard in the last few games and it was nice to get the result. Calls the knock of Dan Christian as the difference between winning and losing. Shares that the move to send him at number 3 was planned this morning as they needed to find some runs at the top as finding the runs at the backend was proving to be tough. Mentions that Christian is a terrific hitter and thankfully he did the job. States that it would have been nice to get some runs from a few players including him. Feels that they are not batting poorly but the conditions are tough and they are trying to find a way. Hopes to put runs on the board in the next match. Tells that the bowlers have dominated the series and you are looking for a quick 30s or 40s from a batter to win the match. He hints that they might play three spinners in the next game.
THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH IS MITCHELL SWEPSON! The leggie says that it was nice to get the nod to play and the conditions were nice to bowl. Shares that he has not experienced these conditions back home. Tells that on a wicket like this he found it hard to let the ball go straight and he was trying to be accurate and hit the stumps. On his mindset when he was on a hat-trick, Swepson replies that he forgot he was on a hat-trick but in hindsight, it was a good ball but the batsman got a bat on it.
Mahmudullah, the captain of Bangladesh, says that it was always difficult to chase and feels they didn't assess the wicket well as it was 120-130 surface and they were a few runs short. Praises the bowlers for stretching the match to the 19th over and as a batting unit, Mahmudullah feels that they need to be cautious and sensible. Mentions that the surface used in this match was the hardest so far and wants to look forward and maximize their opportunity in the batting order. Admits that Dan Christian's batting changed the whole scenario but they know Shakib Al Hasan is a champion bowler and he will come back stronger. On holding back Mustafizur Rahman, the Bangla captain replies that he had to keep his two overs as they were defending a low total. Signs off by saying that the bowlers did their job but the batters didn't put their hands up.
Time for the presentation...
Earlier in the day, Mitchell Swepson led Australia's charge with the ball and played an important role in restricting Bangladesh to a paltry total. Ashton Agar and Ashton Turner played their part with the ball as well, while Josh Hazlewood continued to impress with his accuracy. It was the bowling effort that didn't allow Bangladesh to score more than 104, otherwise, you know what would have happened.
In a run chase of 105, Australia found themselves in a good position when Dan Christian expressed himself with the bat. They were cruising inside the Powerplay but after his departure, once again it was a steady procession for the Aussies. From 47/1 to 65/6, the touring team pushed themselves into a hole and had the Ashtons not combined for a valuable 34-run alliance, it would have been yet another embarrassing loss for the Kangaroos on this tour.
The Bangla bowlers once again were very impressive. Mahedi Hasan and Nasum Ahmed's 8 overs combined squeezed the life out of the Australian chase and had Shakib Al Hasan not gone for 50 runs in his 4 overs, the picture could have been different. A word of praise for Mustafizur Rahman, he was exceptional yet again and in hindsight, Mahmudullah brought him too late when the stand between Ashton Turner and Ashton Agar was prospering. Still, you have to say, well-tried Bangladesh, although a golden chance of inflicting a whitewash has slipped away.
A hard-earned win for Australia. They have huffed and puffed to reach the target of 105 runs. It tells you that their batting woes have not ended yet. The tourists decided to throw caution to the wind in the run chase as they sent Dan Christian up the order at number 3. The Aussie all-rounder emerged with positive intent and hammered 5 sixes in one over bowled by Shakib. His knock turned out to be vital as the Aussies lost the plot after that but the required rate never bothered them.
