That is all we have from this game. The Strikers move to second and the team which they have displaced, plays on Thursday. The Sixers it is, currently pushed down to third, face the Brisbane Heat at the 'Gabba. The match begins at 6.10 pm local (0810 GMT). Make sure you are there to catch the action. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
JONATHAN WELLS HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Smiles on being told that he was not out for the 6th time this season. Humbly says that it is nice to contribute to the team's win. On him being called underrated, the modest bloke smiles again and says that is not the case as he got lot of runs in the last season as well. On the toughness in scoring runs, Wells says that it was a very tough wicket and the fact that they lost early wickets did not help the case either. Praises the bowlers for defending the total but also credits the lower order for taking the innings deep which allowed him to go berserk at the end. Lauds Peter Siddle for being consistent at this age. On this win, Jonathan says that it is a great achievement to beat the Stars who have been the most consistent team and believe that his team would have to be at its best, should they face the Stars in the final.
Earlier in the day, the Strikers recovered really well from 51/3 in the 9th over to reach 162/4. Jonathan Wells scored his 6th unbeaten knock this season and 4th half century, as he went berserk at the death. At that stage, 162 did look competitive and it did prove so.
The Strikers bowled okay, with only Billy Stanlake getting some stick. Peter Siddle again showed that age is just a number, picking up 4 wickets. The others did well to keep the Stars quiet but unlike them, who had 15 overs of spin, the hosts just had 4 overs of spin.
An innings which did not have any momentum. Like the Strikers, the Stars struggled on a slow pitch, which makes their decision to bowl first questionable. No batsman could actually spend enough time in the middle. Even Peter Handscomb who finished on 65 not out, got credit only because he spent some time in the middle. But it was in a lost cause.
That ends an exciting game. The Stars nearly sneaked in another win but the Strikers held firm at their home ground. They move to second spot now, piping the Sixers for the time being. No such threat to the Stars but they now have two successive defeats which could lead to a loss in momentum as the playoffs come near.
