Daren Sammy, the Zouks skipper, tells that they have a different vibe and good energy in the team. Feels that the management has done a great job in selecting the team. On the fifer of Nabi, Sammy says that he is an amazing player and praises his performance. Adds that people often ask him how will replace someone like Chris Gayle and then Sammy says that he answers saying that it gives someone else an opportunity. Tells that he is a leader as well which makes his task easier. Agrees with the opposition skipper regarding the surface being a poor one and tells that he doesn't want the toss to be such a big factor.
Rayad Emrit, the Patriots skipper, starts by telling that it is harsh on the players when they turn up for the game and the pitch behaves like this. Feels he can't blame his batters and adds it was a good effort from them to get over 100. Tells the toss was important as the wicket was damp early on. Reckons they have shown a good fight but they need to work hard for their next games. Finishes by saying that they have got a few positives from this game.
MOHAMMAD NABI IS NAMED MAN OF THE MATCH. He starts by saying that small chases are always a bit tricky but credits Cornwall for the kind of start he gave them. Praises the knock from his countrymen, Zadran as well. Adds that most of the time the team he plays for qualifies for the playoffs. Mentions the morale of the team is very high and they will try to keep the morale high for the next game as well.
And that's what transpired eventually despite a brilliant effort from Imran Khan who took a 3-fer. Tanvir was hammered for 20 in the first over and the Patriots could not recover from that early punch. Jaggesar too bowled well but wickets were what that they needed and it didn't come on time for the Patriots and the result for everyone to see. Stay tuned for the presentation.
Earlier in the game, it was a sorry show with the bat from the Patriots as Nabi ran through their top order and left them reeling at 11 for 4 after 3 overs. Few handy runs from Dunk and Joseph towards the end meant that they just managed to get over 100. However, that was always going to be a little too less. Nabi was the star who took 5 in his 4-over spell and just didn't allow the Patriots' batsman to get going.
The Patriots needed wicket early and in heaps. They got their first in the 3rd over but before that, Cornwall had done his job during his 11-ball 26. Rain interrupted for a bit but Fletcher along with Chase calmly scored runs, despite he lost Deyal on the first ball after the resumption. After the wicket of Fletcher, Zadran scored briskly and took the side home. Eventually, Chase stayed till the end to take the side home.
So, a stroll in the park in the end for the Zouks to seal the deal. A complete performance from them one would assume. First, it was the bowlers who did the job for them and then the batters turned up for this small run chase and ramped up the win with 32 balls left in the innings.
