... THE RUN CHASE ...
-
!
That will be the end of the innings. England finish with 188 on the board. Though this is just the 5th international T20 game at this venue, it’s nonetheless the 2nd highest total over here. All thanks to Jos Buttler, who scored a scintillating 96 with shots all over the park. He was at his innovative best, as he executed the scoops and reverse-scoops to perfection, making bowler’s job tough. The in-form Ben Duckett was early to go, but that didn’t hold England back as they scored 78 of the first six overs, utilizing the powerplay to its fullest. After the powerplay, West Indies were able to control the runs a bit as spinners took over. Courtesy of which middle overs phase produced just 58 runs for the home team. Jacob Bethell struggled throughout the innings as he ended up with 23 of 23 balls, staying there till the end. The West Indies Pacers in particular in the second half of the innings, found their mojo as they started bowling more percentage pace off deliveries. Though wickets kept falling, Jos Buttler was in cruise control mode as he continued his T20 batting form from the IPL. For the West Indies, Gudakesh Motie and Roston Chase, their spinners, did a very tidy job, as they finished with combined figures of 6 overs, 1 wicket for 40. Amongst the pacers, Romario Shepherd in particular used the pitch well as he kept on varying his pace beautifully, in his spell of four overs. Alzarri Joseph after his first expensive over of 23 runs, was quick enough to understand the pace of the wicket as he bowled pretty decently in the last phase of the innings. So, 189 is what West Indies will need to open their account on this tour. It's not going to be easy as England will too look to use the pitch to their advantage. However, with power packed finishers in the middle and lower order, and with short square boundaries, West Indies will back themselves to chase this down. Do join us for the chase in a few minutes.

19.6WJason Holder to Will Jacks
OUT! JACKS IS RUN OUT! A low full toss, around off, Jacks heaves it towards long on. He is always searching for two and Bethell responds pretty well. However, the fielder at long on, Andre Russell, goes for the tougher option and throws the ball to the keeper, Shai Hope. He collects and whips the bails off, celebrating immediately,. The run out appeal is referred upstairs and the first replay shows that Jacks is well short. ENGLAND FINISH ON 188/6!

!
Run out appeal! Drama on the last ball and to the naked eye, it does seem as if Jacks is short. Yes, the replay confirms it.

19.50Jason Holder to Will Jacks
A good bumper, around off, Will Jacks looks to hook but misses.
-
19.41Jason Holder to Jacob Bethell
A slower ball, on a length, outside off, Jacob Bethell slices it behind point for a run.
-
19.31Jason Holder to Will Jacks
Jumps out of the crease and Holder pulls his length back. Jacks is cramped for room and mistimes his pull through mid on, for a single.
-
19.22Jason Holder to Will Jacks
Slower ball, into the surface, swung towards long on for a couple. Holder is frustrated as that was not far from the fielder. Should not have been two.
-
19.14Jason Holder to Will Jacks
EDGED, FOUR! Full and straight, Will Jacks swings hard but only manages to get it off the inner half of the bat. However, it scurries through fine leg to meet the fence!

!
Jason Holder to close the innings out. 3-0-29-0 so far.

18.62Alzarri Joseph to Jacob Bethell
Another yorker, on middle, clipped through mid-wicket for a couple. 11 runs and a wicket from the over, Alzarri Joseph finishes with figures of 4-0-51-1.

18.51Alzarri Joseph to Will Jacks
Around off, worked through mid-wicket for a single.

18.4WAlzarri Joseph to Jos Buttler
OUT! LBW! Buttler has reviewed it but one feels he knows it is in vain. After a series of slow balls, Alzarri has been mixing it up nicely in this over. Bowls a quick delivery, landing it on a length outside off and makes it to skid through. Buttler is not quite prepared for the pacy delivery and is late to get his bat down to try and nudge the ball fine, but misses it and wears it on his pads. A confident Alzarri appeals and the umpire raises his finger in a flash, much to the collective groans from the whole of Durham, one feels. The review does not halp Buttler as Ball Tracking returns two reds, with the hitting projected to be umpire's call, meaning the decision will stay. So the second T20I century will have to wait as Jos Buttler departs for a fantastic 96 (59). The 60-run stand is broken and England are 176/5 after 18.4 overs.

Buttler on 96...

18.31Alzarri Joseph to Jacob Bethell
Terrific yorker, at the base of leg stump. Jacob Bethell watches it carefully and digs it out towards mid on, off balance, for a run.
-
18.21Alzarri Joseph to Jos Buttler
At the stumps now, worked wide of long on for a single. Moves to 96 (58).
-
18.21 wdAlzarri Joseph to Jos Buttler
ANOTHER WIDE. A touch harsh, perhaps? Jos moves across and Alzarri bowls it wider outside off. Buttler tries the reverse scoop but misses. The umpire has wided it but West Indies are not too happy.

18.21 wdAlzarri Joseph to Jos Buttler
WIDE. Miles outside off, Buttler tries to reach out and carve it away but misses.
