155 not out vs Australia in 1998, 1st Test Chennai, India won by 179 runs

Trailing Australia by 71 runs in the first Test, India were under pressure when Sachin walked in. His 155 not out saw the demolition of the great Shane Warne and the other Aussie bowlers. The knock gave India a huge lead and a convincing win.

143 vs Australia in 1998, 6th ODI Sharjah, Australia won by 25 runs

It was an innings that would go down in cricketing folklore as 'Desert Storm'. Sachin unleashed 143 brutal runs as he single-handedly destroyed the Australian bowling attack. The second highest score was just 35 by Nayan Mongia.

136 vs Pakistan, 1st Test Chennai in 1999, Pakistan won by 12 runs

It was a day when Sachin battled his bad back and the Pakistan bowlers. India were tottering at 82/5 when Sachin took the attack to the bowling. He scored 136 and fell with 17 still needed. Pakistan ended up winning by 12 runs.

140 not out vs Kenya in Bristol, 1999 World Cup, India won by 94 runs

While Kenya were not taxing opposition, this innings had an emotional factor involved. With India on the brink of being knocked out of the 1999 ICC World Cup, Sachin returned from his father's funeral and went to score 140 not out as India won by 94 runs and kept their hopes alive in the tournament.

Arguably the best innings played by a man out of form, Sachin's 241 not out against Australia in Steve Waugh's farewell Test ranks as one of his exceptional knocks. Cutting out his off-side play, Sachin curbed his natural instincts as he battled the bowling to guide India to a massive score.

His first ODI hundred Down Under, Sachin's 117 not out helped India beat Australia in the first final of the triangular series in 2008. India would go on to win the series after defeating the hosts in the second final as well.

Chasing 387 to win the fourth innings, Sachin played like a man possessed as no England bowler had any clue how to bowl to him. He brought up his century by hitting the winning runs and the joy on his face had to be seen to be believed. He dedicated his hundred to the victims of the Mumbai terror attacks earlier in the year.

Yet another case of so near yet so far. Sachin's 175 took India on the brink of victory against Australia in the ODI series in 2009. Chasing 351 to win, Sachin was the 7th wicket to fall after having blasted Australia into submission. Australia won by just 3 runs.

200 not out vs South Africa in Gwalior, 2nd ODI 2010, India won by 153 runs

It was a day that history was created. In the 2nd ODI vs South Africa, Sachin hit 200 not out and simply could not be bowled to. It would remain the highest individual score in ODI cricket until Virender Sehwag smashed 219 against West Indies in 2011.
