CLT20: Neil Broom's special ton blows Perth Scorchers away

Neil Broom scored the first century in this year's Champions League Twenty20 to help his side Otago Volts register a 62-run win over Perth Scorchers in a Group A game in Jaipur.

The Perth Scorchers, after winning the toss and inserting Otago Volts into bat, made a resounding start after reducing the Kiwi side to 9 for 2 inside two overs. Then Otago wicket-keeper Derek de Boorder took the attack to the opposition by playing almost a stroke-a-ball and it worked for him. He managed 45 from 28 balls with the help of 5 fours and 2 sixes. De Boorder shared a quickfire 45-ball 67-run stand with Broom.

Neil Broom then took centerstage and batted with gay abandon, not allowing the Perth bowlers to settle into a good rhythm.

Dutchman Ryan ten Doeschate started to tee off and continued his good form in the tournament with the bat. Doeschate hit 3 fours and 6 sixes in his 26-ball 66 and shared a whirlwind 128-run stand with Broom in just 48 balls.

Neil Broom finally completed his century, in just 51 balls. It was the first century of this season and only the fifth in the tournament's short history. Broom ended up with 117 not out from 56 balls to take Otago to 242/4 - the tournament's highest total ever.

Ian Butler went for 11 runs in the first over but took two wickets, one of the first ball. Liam Davis and Ashton Agar were the two Perth batsmen out.

The Perth Scorchers lost wickets at regular intervals and none of their middle and lower batsmen could match the hitting ability displayed by the Otago batsmen. Hilton Cartwright (in pic) was the lone bright spot. He remained unbeaten on 69 from 53 balls.

Otago went on to score a comfortable 62-run win. It was their 14th win in their 15 unbeaten matches.
