Glenn Maxwell Blitz Cancels Out Virat Kohli's Ton as Australia Seal Series

Glenn Maxwell smashed a brilliant 83-ball 96 to as Australia crushed India by three wickets to seal the One-day Series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Rohit Sharma, who had smashed two consecutive centuries flopped at MCG, as he edged it to Matthew Wade off Kane Richardson. Richardson did well considering the fact Josh Hazlewood was rested for the series.

Virat Kohli steadied the ship along with Shikhar Dhawan and put on a 119-runs stand for the second wicket. The partnership provided India the platform for late flourish at the end of the innings.

Shikhar Dhawan who was under pressure to perform, managed to get his first half-century of the series and looked good for more before he was castled by John Hastings for 68.

Virat Kohli became the fastest to reach 7000 runs. He added another feather in his cap, as he smashed his 24th ODI ton -- quickest to reach the landmark. He reached the landmark with a single off Kane Richardson.

Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni used the long handle to good effect as he smashed 23 runs off nine balls to help India get some quick runs in the final over. However, India couldn't get much as regular wickets hampered India's progress.

Ravindra Jadeja then provided the second important breakthrough as he removed in-form Steve Smith for 41. Jadeja induced an edge from Smith and was safely taken by Ajinkya Rahane, who was stationed in slips.

In-form George Bailey too didn't last long as he was stumped by MS Dhoni off Ravindra Jadeja for 23. Bailey was beaten by the flight and spin of Jadeja delivery and Dhoni did the rest by whipping the bails off in a flash.

Ishant Sharma then made inroads as he packed off half-centurion Shaun Marsh for 62. He then had Matthew Wade walking back after he top-edged one to Shikhar Dhawan at mid-on, which put India right back into the game.

But Glenn Maxwell played a counter-attacking cricket to deflate Indian bowling line up. Maxwell changed the course of the game in the 43rd over as he picked up 15 runs from the over. He got good support from James Faulkner, who took on Ravindra Jadeja to give the momentum back to the hosts.
