Sydney:
Fast bowler John Hastings has been ruled out of Australia's tour to the West Indies after surgery on an ankle injury suffered while playing in the Indian Premier League.
Hastings' place in the squad for the one-day tri-series involving the West Indies and South Africa has been taken by his Victoria state teammate Scott Boland.
Cricket Australia Sports Science and Sports Medicine Manager Alex Kountouris said Hastings had bone spurs removed from one ankle. The need for surgery was discovered after Hastings suffered an injury during warm-ups for a match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians on April 13.
Kountouris said scans had revealed "early stage bone stress of (Hastings') fibula bone near his ankle."
