Brendon McCullum created history by becoming the first Kiwi player to score a triple hundred in Test cricket. He broke Martin Crowe's record of 299 and ended with 302.

Playing his debut Test, all-rounder James Neesham made the most of the occasion by scoring a hundred. The left-hander made 137 not out and added 179 runs with McCullum for the seventh wicket, helping New Zealand reach their highes-ever score in Tests - 680/8 declared.

Brendon McCullum faced 559 balls, spent 775 mninutes at the crease and his 302 was laced with 32 fours and 4 sixes. He also became the first captain in history to score a double ton and triple hundred in consecutive Test matches.

Zaheer Khan was the lone bright spot in the Indian bowling during the second innings as he registered his 11th five-wicket haul fetching figures of 5 for 170. It was also for the first time in his career that he had bowled more than 50 overs in an innings.

Trent Boult and Tim Southee were too at the start of the fourth innings, when India were set a 435-run target. Dhawan fell for two and Murali Vijay fell for seven, increasing hopes of the Kiwis to score a win.

Cheteshwar Pujara had a yet another failure as he could only make 17 and was out to Southee. Pujara had a miserable tour of New Zealand, unable to cope with the bounce and swing movement fully and had scores of 1, 23, 19, 17.

Then Virat Kohli batted with much responsibility and registered his 6th Test ton and 24th in international cricket, thus scoring a hundred in all the countries he's played in. kohli, together with Rohit Sharma ensured that India drew the Test after being 166/3 when umpires called off play on final day. The result in Wellington meant that the Kiwis clinched the series 1-0.
