India captain Rohit Sharma was on fire during his appearance on Netflix's Great Indian Kapil Show, alongside star batter Shreyas Iyer. With his street smart sense of humor, Rohit gave the crowd, even Iyer for that matter, plenty of entertainment. During one of the interactions, the host, Kapil Sharma, asked Iyer to name a player he looked up to as a kid. Iyer revealed that Rohit has been his idol since childhood, and said that he learned his trait watchig the dynamic opener.
Iyer clarified that he didn't pick Rohit because of the camera or because of the Indian captain standing next him.
"Joke nahi kar raha hoon ya aise he butter up nahi kar raha hoon, but Rohit bhai chote se idol rahe hai. Kyuki vo bhi Mumbai se hai, mai bhi waha se hoon aur unko dekhte hue mai grow hua hoon," Iyer said after he was asked to name his idol by the host.
While Rohit did acknowledge Iyer's gesture, he went on to joke that the current crop of players say bad things about him, behind his back, in the dressing room.
"Dressing room mein bahut gaaliya dete hai. Ye saamne abhi log hai, camera hai. Aajkal ke youngsters dangerous hai bhai bahut," Rohit replied. His response left Kapil and Iyer in splits.
Rohit is currently playing for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024. However, he lost his captaincy to Hardik Pandya ahead of the season.
Under Pandya's leadership, MI has suffered three defeats so far in the season.
In contrast, Iyer, who is the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, has led his side to three wins on the bounce in the season.
For the unversed, Iyer recently was axed from BCCI central contracts list for his apparent reluctance to play Ranji Trophy.
On losing his central contract, Iyer had said that he wants to put all those negative thoughts in the back-burner as he focuses on what's there in store for him.
"I don't want to think about what the doctor has said, what the injury was because, as I mentioned previously, when you over-think, put your focus on the injury, and in that moment, forget about what you're doing the best," Iyer told mediapersons ahead of team's opening game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
"So, I want to put all these things aside and focus on what's there for me on the plate," the KKR skipper made his priority clear.
