Roger Federer was pushed to a four-set match but he managed to overcome Nicolas Mahut 6-3, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Top-ranked Novak Djokovic however had no problems in extending his Grand Slam win streak to 24 matches as he beat Nicolas Devilder of France 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.

Djokovic has won the last three Grand Slam titles, and he needs four more victories at Roland Garros to become the third player to hold all four major titles at the same time.

Sixth seed Samantha Stosur reached the last 16 of the French Open by defeating an erratic Nadia Petrova of Russia 6-3, 6-3.
