TUCC: Gwalior defeat Aligarh to enter semis

Jiwaji University from Gwalior rode on Prashant Mavai's back to defeat Aligarh Muslim University and enter the semifinal of Toyota University Cricket Championship.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Gwalior lost in-form Sanat Gurjar early. He was removed on 1 by Mansoor Ahmad in the third over.

Mavai was the other opener and he showed no signs of remorse at having lost his partner.

He hit 39 off 30 deliveries with four boundaries and two sixes.

Aligarh players were unable to do much about Mavai but did manage to scalp wickets at the other end.

The joy was short-lived as despite the eventual wicket of Mavai, the onus of scoring was taken over by skipper Sohraab Dhaliwal.

Gwalior came back on and struck through Mavai once again. The all-rounder took four wickets to puncture what could have been a sensational fight.

For Aligarh, opener Abhinav Kataria did smash a sparkling fifty to take the match close to the finish line.

His wicket eventually however had a cascading effect as Aligarh team was bowled out on 132.
