Sehwag: The ecstasy and agony of 293

He missed the record of becoming the first batsman to score three Test triple-centuries but Virender Sehwag’s innings of 293 will go down in the history of cricket as one of the best knocks by a batsman.

Flamboyant batsman Virender Sehwag, who took away the game from the islanders in no time, has been rightly adjudged Man of the Match and Series after India mauled Sri Lanka by an innings and 24 runs in Mumbai Test. On Day 3, a billion heartbeats stilled for a moment as Sehwag tapped a flighted ball from Muttiah Muralitharan back to the bowler, who took the catch on his second attempt. He was at 293, seven short of what would have been a record-breaking third triple century in Test cricket. He got a standing ovation at the historic Brabourne stadium in Mumbai. (AFP Photo)
