Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has found himself in all sorts of trouble as his contract has been reportedly terminated by Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Fortune Barishal. While there is no official confirmation regarding the same, the franchise did confirm on Thursday that Malik has travelled to UAE due to personal reasons, adding that he will miss the remainder of the season. The franchise also roped in Malik's former Pakistan teammate Ahmed Shehzad to replace him in the squad.
Malik sparked a debate after he bowled three no-balls in an over during a match against the Khulna Tigers. Reports in Bangladesh have claimed that Malik's contract has been terminated due to the same over suspicion of match fixing.
However, neither his (teams name) nor any member of bcb officially confirmed the news. At this moment, it seems just a rumour
The news of Malik's reported contract termination by Fortune Barishal has taken the internet by storm.
Here's how social media reacted:
Malik has been in the news of late for his third marriage following divorce with Indian tennis star Sania Mirza.
Last week, Malik announced his marriage to Pakistani actress Sana Javed.
The cricketer released his wedding photograph on social media platform X with his new wife, with the words "And We created you in pairs".
There have been strong rumours since 2022 about differences between 41-year-old Shoaib and Sania leading to a split, and they have rarely been seen together in the last couple of years.
Just a few days back Malik unfollowed the Indian star on Instagram.
Their five-year-old son Izaan lives with Sania.
Sania's father told PTI that her daughter had initiated the divorce proceedings.
"It was a 'khula'. I do not wish to comment beyond this," said Imran Mirza. Khula refers to the right of a Muslim woman to unilaterally divorce her husband.
Shoaib and Sania had got married in the Indian player's hometown Hyderabad in April 2010 and they used to live in Dubai.
The social media posts by the 37-year-old Sania also indicated that she was under stress.
