About Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was established in 1992, with a large vision that matched with Pakistan's plans of co-hosting the 1996 World Cup. When completed, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium became Pakistan's 14th ground for international cricket. Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium has a seating capacity of 15,000 people and it has quite recently acquired floodlights as well. Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium hosted its first test match in 1993, when Pakistan played against Zimbabwe. It hosted its first ever one-day international match in 1992, when Pakistan played Sri Lanka. Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium lies at a comfortable distance from the capital, Islamabad and every international match in the ground receives a healthy turnout as it is the only stadium in the territory. The ground is also used for multi-purpose but most of the time only cricket matches takes place. It is a home ground for the Rawalpindi cricket team and speedster Shoaib Akhtar used to play his domestic matches at this very stadium.
