Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma took to social media on Tuesday as they announced the birth of their baby boy Akaay. The development came amid the Indian cricketer's continued absence from the on-field duties. As fans wondered if all was well with Virat Kohli and his family, several rumours emerged on social media. There were those too who contemplated if Virat's absence is due to Anushka's pregnancy. Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers confirmed that the power couple was expecting their second child, hence the Kohli remained absent from his cricketing duties.
However, in another video just days after his revelation, De Villiers said that he made a blunder and shared news that wasn't true.
"My friend Virat Kohli is still not available. I cry out to everybody to give him the privacy that he deserves. Family comes first. No one knows what exactly is going on. I am asking all of us to respect that. I did a bit of a blunder in my previous show and I apologise to the Kohli family for that," De Villiers said on his YouTube channel.
"Just not nice. I shared information that was not confirmed at all so. I am begging everyone out there to respect him and his family and his private time. Hopefully, we will see Virat back, happy and scoring runs. Like he always does."
But, Virat and Anushka's announcement on February 20 confirmed that De Villiers was correct. As the birth of Akaay was confirmed, fans unleashed memes on social media, targeting the former South Africa and Royal Challengers Bangalore batter.
Earlier on Tuesday, Kohli and Anushka took to their social media accounts to reveal the news of their newborn baby, Akaay.
"With abundant happiness and our hearts full of love, we are pleased to inform everyone that on 15th February, we welcomed our baby boy Akaay & Vamika's little brother into this world. We seek your blessings and good wishes in this beautiful time in our lives. We request you to kindly respect our privacy at this time. Love & Gratitude. Virat & Anushka," Kohli shared on his social media handle.
Kohli opted out of the entire five-match series against England earlier, citing personal reasons.
