Opener Mahela Jayawardene gave Sri Lanka a good start after the team was asked to bat first.

His partner in Upul Tharanga looked good with his two boundaries but could not hurt the Indians as he became the first batsman to fall - on 11 off 29. He was removed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

In reply, India's start was dismal as Shaminda Eranga claimed two quick wickets to put pressure.

He first removed Shikhar Dhawan (16) and returned to dismiss Virat Kohli on 2.

Rohit Sharma - like Sangakkara in the previous innings - anchored himself in the middle and completed his 17th ODI fifty. He was eventually removed by Rangana Herath on 58.

The spinner came back to claim two off two when he dismissed Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin - both adjudged LBW.

Dhoni came in and batted sensibly to have India crawling towards the target. His full fury though was unleashed in the final over when he hit the 15 runs needed. The match came to a cracking end with two balls to spare.
