Australia defeated India by eight wickets in just two-and-a-half days in Adelaide to take 1-0 lead in the four-match series.

Australian skipper Tim Paine was adjudged the Player of the Match for his superb knock of 73 runs in the first innings. With his team struggling at 79/5 on Day 2, Paine played captain's knock and bailed his team out of trouble, helping them reach a respectable total.

With 62-run lead going into the third day, India were on top but they squandered the advantage after a historic collapse, which saw them scoring their lowest-ever total of 36/9 in the second innings.
