Virat Kohli's 136 was the cornerstone of the match as the Indian skipper showed that the added responsibility of captaincy had not affected his form.

He switched gears quickly and reached the three-figure mark off just 95 deliveries, ensuring India seize initiative and, eventually, the full control of the match.

While Kohli eventually fell for 136 and Rahane was removed on 73, India had almost crossed the finish line by then.

Bangladesh though will be proud of the cricket the team put on display with skipper Mushfiqur Rahim hitting 117 off 113 after his side was asked to bat.

Rahim was well supported by Anamul Haque who hit 77 as the two innings helped the hosts reach a strong total of 279/7 despite Mohammad Shami's four-wicket haul.

In the end though, it proved to be just a little less than what would have helped the side win.
