03.25 (IST): Brazil's campaign ends in tears! They suffered a jolt in the semifinal loss to Germany and never managed to recover. Netherlands would loved to have had a shot at the trophy but to beat Brazil and finish third will not be too bad a result to take away for the Dutch. Only a part of Van Gaal's busy schedule comes to an end as he takes charge of Manchester United from August with a few players expected to sign for the club. As he walks away from a successful campaign in the World Cup, a tough season awaits him in England. As for the World Cup, the local fans will be torn between long-time rivals Argentina and Brazil -- the team that punctured their side in the semis. For the neutrals however, it will be a thrilling finale. Can Messi finally live up to his billing in Argentina colours? Or will the rampaging Germans run away with the coveted trophy? 01.51 (IST): Oscar with a couple of very good chances for Brazil. First he takes a low shot from outside the box that is easily saved by the Dutch keeper. Soon he finds himself past the Dutch backline and by himself inside the box but his take down of the cross is not good enough and the danger is averted. 22 minutes played, Dutch lead 2-0.

01.46 (IST): Oh dear! Shambolic defending from Brazil once again! Daley Blind finds the ball at his feet inside the box and finds the back of the net with ease. 17 minutes gone, Dutch lead 2-0.
01.40 (IST): Both sets of defenders are facing a tough time. It's relentless attack from both ends. 15th minute, Netherlands lead 1-0.
01.38 (IST): This has been a pacy, end-to-end start to the third-spot game. Robben attacks again but gives away the ball and then commits a foul. Ref shows him a yellow.

01.34 (IST):Â With that goal, Brazil have a new World Cup record. This is the first time they have conceded 12 goals in a World Cup! Germany will take a lot of credit for that.
01.33 (IST): GOAL! Van Persie converts the penalty to add further misery to the hosts' nightmarish World Cup campaign. Dutch lead 1-0 in the third minute. Thiago Silva is very lucky to get away with just a yellow card.

Brazil lost its World Cup semifinal match to Germany by a devastating 7-1 score. The Netherlands lost its game against Argentina in a penalty shootout after 120 minutes of tense scoreless play.
After each match, the losing players wandered off the field, glassy eyed, crushed that their World Cup dreams had ended so close to the final.

Van Gaal Gunning for Brazil
After deep initial scepticism, Dutch coach Louis van Gaal goes into Saturday's third place play-off determined to down hosts Brazil and end the World Cup on a high note.
His last match before taking over at Manchester United sees Van Gaal's Netherlands, beaten on penalties by Argentina in the semifinal, facing a Brazil side dismantled on Tuesday by Germany in a 7-1 rout.

Robben the best of the tournament, says Scolari
Netherlands winger Arjen Robben has been the standout performer of this year's World Cup in the eyes of Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.
Brazil and the Netherlands meet in Saturday's third-place play-off in Brasilia and Scolari indicated that he will be making a special effort to stop Robben from hurting his side as they try to end the tournament on a high.
"I think Robben has been the best player of the World Cup," said Scolari on Friday as he confirmed that Brazil have trained with the focus on stopping the Bayern Munich winger from causing havoc with his favoured move of cutting in from the right wing onto his left foot. (Read more)
