Virat Kohli can break Chris Gayle's record: Shane Watson
Brendon McCullum's 158 for Kolkata Knight Riders against RCB at Chinnaswamy Stadium in the opening game of the IPL in 2008 stood the test of time till Chris Gayle blew away the record with a 66-ball 175 not out earlier this week.

Records are meant to be broken for sure, but sometimes scores like 175 not out in a T20 match looks so humongous that it seems such figures are simply unreachable. Not quite. Australian braveheart Shane Watson says, "nothing is impossible."
Calling Gayle's unbeaten innings against Pune Warriors a "super-human effort," the Rajasthan Royals all-rounder says in an interview to the Times of India that there are players with potential who can break the Jamaican's world record score.
Watson feels, like McCullum's that innings that stood for a good five years, Gayle's knock may look 'safe', but only just. Cricketers are continuously pushing the boundaries and Watson says: "When Brendon McCullum scored that 158 for KKR in the first year, we had thought that would stay on, but then Gayle came by. It would need an extraordinary effort to improve Gayle's 175, but having said that, there are always players with potential."
One man who seems to have caught the imagination of current and old stars is Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper, Virat Kohli. Vivian Richards was all praise for the young Indian batsman saying: "I love watching Virat Kohli bat. He looks to me like an individual of my own heart. I love his aggression and serious passion that I used to have. He reminds me of myself." And now, Watson sees Kohli as the man who could beat Gayle's record.
"Virat Kohli is one person who can do that over time. There has to be some amazing talent to do that," Watson said, adding that his century - the first in IPL 2013 -- against Chennai Super Kings has been put into the shade by Gayle's amazing knock.
Ahead of Rajasthan's match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, Watson is drawing inspiration from his own century.
"It was nice to get a T20 century, but then we lost the match and that was disappointing. A T20 ton is very rare and gives you a lot of confidence. To get that, so many things have to fall in place and luckily for me, things worked out," Watson said, hoping for an encore in Jaipur today.
