ICC Champions Trophy: India beat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets in 1st warm-up

India warmed up for the ICC Champions Trophy by scoring a 5-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the first practice game at Edgbaston, Birmingham on Saturday. Centurions Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik were the heroes of the day for India.

Rohit Sharma could not bring his red-hot IPL form to India colours as he could only score five runs from 11 balls. He was dismissed by Thisara Perera when he pulled the ball to mid on where Nuwan Kulasekara took a sharp catch.

Suresh Raina brought momentum to the Indian run chase as he contributed 34 runs in a 48-run stand with Virat Kohli against Sri Lanka at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Raina's 31-ball knock contained four hits to the fence.

Once Raina departed when India were in a spot of bother at 110 for 4, Dinesh Karthik took centrestage with Kohli and played a solid hand, reaching a half-century.

Kohli and Karthik never allowed the Sri Lankan bowlers to settle down as they kept the asking rate in check by finding the fence a little too frequently for the Sri Lankan liking. The duo added 186 runs in just 140 balls.

Kohli was dismissed for a well-made 144. Kohli likes to score big against Sri Lanka in ODIs as 5 out of his 13 centuries have come against the Lankans.

Dhoni then came in at number seven and spent some crucial time in the middle by scoring unbeaten 18 runs off 17 balls. He and Karthik (106 not out) made sure the Indians reached the target with an over to spare.
