In arguably the biggest shock of the French Open so far, World No.2 Roger Federer limped out of Roland Garros, after a straight set defeat to Jo-Wilfred Tsonga.

Despite the 7-5, 6-3, 6-3 defeat Federer recognized that he lost to the better player on the day and was gracious on his exit from Roland Garros.

Tsonga took one step closer to ending France's 30-year wait for a Grand Slam singles champion. Yannick Noah remains the last Frenchman to win a men's singles title.

At the same stage of the French Open last year, Tsonga gave up a 2 set lead and 4 match points in a crushing loss to Novak Djokovic. The victory over Federer will go some way to ease that pain.
