There may have been repeated protests demanding better basic facilities but Brazil welcomes the FIFA World Cup with open arms eventually.

There was a wave of excitement in the run-up to the opening ceremony and the first match - Brazil vs Croatia - in Sao Paulo.

People came out on the streets and cheered for their heroes with passion.

Brazil is synonymous with fun, frolic and a lot of party. The scenes on the first day of the World Cup was symbolic of these tags that the country enjoys.

Creativity is in no short measure in the land of samba!

The big smiles became outrightly huge when Brazil registered a 3-1 win against Croatia in the opener.

Scenes of jubilation at the Arena Corinthians cannot be described in words. Therefore, words won't be used from here on.
