France got an early advantage after Honduras goalkeeper Noel Valladares failed to keep out the ball from getting into his own net. This was the first time in the tournament that the goal line technology was used to confirm a goal.

There were numerous tackles from both the teams thus bringing the physical element in the game. Paulo Pogba of France looked the most physical of the French lot.

The Hondurans found it very difficult to stop French striker Karim Benzema. He made repeated attacks at the opponents net and looked the most threatening.

Karim Benzema scored his first goal from the spot after Wilson Palacios was sent off with his second yellow card for charging into the back of Paul Pogba.

With Honduras down to 10 men, France continued to dominate and Benzema created the second goal in the 48th minute - the first to be confirmed by goal-line technology at the World Cup.
