The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has rejected a request by Brazil's football confederation (CBF) to allow "video referees" in the country's top domestic league. (Read more football stories here)

According to local media reports, CBF president Marco Polo Del Nero wanted to adopt the technology for next year's Brazilian Serie A championship.

Despite its ruling, Zurich-based IFAB - empowered by world football's governing body FIFA to preside over the laws of the game - did not rule out adopting the initiative in the future.
