Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has approved the nomination of Najam Sethi for the ICC president's post for the term beginning July, 2015.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said in a statement on Thursday that the PCB had sent Sethi's nomination to the ICC.
"The PCB's Board of Governors (BoG) has unanimously nominated Sethi for the post of ICC President and the Prime Minister has also now approved the nomination," the statement said.
The PM is the patron in chief of the cricket board.
The statement said that Sethi while serving as Chairman of the board until recently had helped fashion a new democratic constitution for the PCB and later voluntarily stepped aside to make way for the election of Shaharyar Khan.
It said the BoG in its last three meetings had at various points greatly appreciated Sethi's contribution to Pakistan cricket during a difficult transition period and unanimously felt he was the best man for the nomination as the President of the apex body.
