IPL stats: Lasith Malinga Extends Lead as Leading Wicket-Taker

In a format and tournament that heavily favours the batsmen, Mumbai Indians' talismanic bowler Lasith Malinga continues to steal the show. With 112 wickets in 79 matches across seven seasons, Malinga is widening the gap between his tally and that of the rest of the bowlers in the league. The second in the list is Sunrisers Hyderabad's Amit Mishra, 13 behind the Sri Lankan pacer and having played two more matches than him. (MI vs KXIP: As it happened)

Malinga's wicket of David Miller at a crucial juncture and his brilliant death bowling helped the Mumbai Indians restrict Kings XI Punjab to a low total and chase it down to record their first win of the season. (Highlights | Scorecard)

# Malinga is the first bowler to complete 250 wickets (ave.17.93) in 187 matches in Twenty20,  Alfonso Clive Thomas, with 235 wickets (ave.21.38) in 201 matches, has the next best tally.

# Mumbai Indians have recorded their first win in six matches in the IPL 2014 while Punjab have posted their first defeat in six games.

# Mumbai Indians have won six and lost seven out of 13 contested vs Punjab at the IPL - winning % 46.15.

# Mumbai Indians have won nine consecutive IPL games at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.  The tally includes all eight last year.

# Harbhajan Singh (4-0-34-2) has produced his second best bowling performance in the IPL 2014 - his best being 2 for 27 vs Chennai at Dubai (DSC) on April 25.  Lasith Malinga is the only bowler to capture four wickets this year for Mumbai at the IPL - 4 for 23 vs Kolkata at Abu Dhabi on April 16.

# Chidhambaram Muralidharen Gautam (33) has recorded his highest score for Mumbai in the IPL 2014.

# Kieron Pollard, with 160 runs at an average of 53.33 in six matches, is the leading run-getter for Mumbai Indians in the present competition.

# Punjab (168/5) have recorded their fourth total of 165-plus at the IPL 2014 - their highest being 206 for four vs Chennai at Abu Dhabi on April 18, 2014.


# Wriddhiman Prasanta Saha (59 off 47 balls) has posted his first fifty in the present competition - his seventh fifty in T20.

# Saha's feat of reaching 43 balls is the slowest by a Punjab player in the IPL 2014


# Maxwell's tally of 19 sixes (apart from 35 fours) is the highest by a batsman in the IPL 2014.

# Maxwell's strike rate of 196.02 is the highest in the present competition.

# Glenn Maxwell (45 off 27 balls) took his aggregate to 345 (ave. 57.50) in six matches - the most by a batsman in the IPL 2014. Dwayne Smith has the next best tally - 256 (ave.42.66) in six games.


# Sandeep Sharma, with nine wickets at 10.11 runs apiece in just four matches, and Balaji, with 9 wickets at 19.77 in six matches, are the leading wicket-takers for Punjab at the IPL 2014.
