Wasim Jaffer's nephew becomes Mumbai's school cricket hero

Arman is touted as the next big batting star that teenage cricket has to offer in India.

Arman Jaffer, nephew of Mumbai's long time domestic cricket run-machine Wasim Jaffer, hogged all the limelight on Thursday after his 473 broke the record for the highest score in Harris Shield tournament.

Representing the Rizvi Springfield school against IES VN Sule Guruji school in the final, 14-year-old batted for a total of 359 balls, hit 65 fours and 16 sixes in his marathon knock which lasted 437 minutes at the Matunga Gymkhana ground.

The skinny boy continued from his overnight unbeaten score of 121 after Day 2 and en route his 473, emulated his uncle Wasim's 400 unbeaten for Anjuman-e-Islam against Marvadi Vidyalaya in the same tournament in 1992-93.

Arman is touted as the next big batting star that teenage cricket has to offer in India. The right-hander has a fancy for scoring big. Two years back he missed the elusive 500-run mark by just 2 runs, scoring 498 against Raja Shivaji school in Giles Shield match.

Thus, people who have watched him bat closely, were expecting that Thursday would see history being created with the breach of 500-run mark. Arman did, however, break the previous Shield record of 439 by Sarfaraz Khan, scored back in November 2009 for the same school Rizvi.
