Top seed Yuki Bhambri opted out of his second round match due to a knee problem, paving the smooth entry of eighth seed Karunuday Singh into the singles semifinals of the USD 10,000 ITF Futures event, here on Thursday.
After losing the first set 4-6, Yuki was leading the second 4-3 but a knee injury forced him to concede the clash at the R K Khanna Tennis stadium.
Yuki said it was a sane decision to opt out rather than aggravate the problem.
"Pain was always there. I have not fully recovered. After the power-packed first set, I felt the discomfort. I did not want to aggravate it," Yuki, who has been nursing tendinitis in both knees, said.
In the other quarterfinals, seventh-seeded Vijayant Malik tamed giantkiller Vignesh Peranamullur, 6-2, 7-5.
Vignesh had ousted second seed Rohan Gajjar in his previous clash.
