About Gagan Narang:

Gagan Narang has the distinction of being the first Indian to win a medal at the London Olympics. He won a bronze medal in shooting.

He also got the Gold in Men's 10m air rifle at the Afro Asian Games, 2003. In 2006 World Cup too, he bagged Gold in the air rifle event.

When Narang qualified for the 2008 ISSF World Cup final after a bronze in the World Cup in China, little did he know of a record he was about to break. Gagan shot a perfect 600 in the qualification stages and then scored 103.5 in the last round to gain the World record. On November 4, 2008 he broke Austria's Thomas Farnik's record, set in the 2006 World Cup final in Granada, Spain. This win was special for Narang as he pointed later that Barack Obama had won the Presidential election the same day. Barack Obama incidentally has been a huge source of inspiration for the shooter.

Life has not been all rosy though as he openly expressed displeasure at not being conferred the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and threatened a no-show at the Delhi Commonwealth Games. This never happened though and he got plenty of glory at the 2010 extravaganza.

He received the Padma Shree in 2010 and was also selected for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award which was conferred to him on August 29, 2011.

Previous Olympics: Athens, 2004 - finished 12th and Beijing, 2008- finished 9th
