Saina makes winning start in Singapore

Indian ace shuttler Saina Nehwal opened her title defence at the Singapore Open Super Series on a winning note.

Indian ace shuttler Saina Nehwal opened her title defence at the Singapore Open Super Series on a winning note.

The 4th seed beat former world champion Lan Lu 21-18, 13-21, 21-16 in the first round match in just under an hour.

Saina's win comes as the second win over her Chinese counterpart in quick succession after their meeting at the Thailand Open had also gone in Saina's favour.

The 21-year-old from Hyderabad is looking for her second title after winning the Swiss Open this year.
