Berlin: Freiburg cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Stuttgart at the Baden-Wurttemberg derby whilst Leverkusen craved out a 2-1 win at struggling Hoffenheim that dropped to relegation zone to close the 13th round of Bundesliga.
Freiburg astonished Stuttgart 3-0 Sunday to conquer sixth position and to remain unbeaten at the fifth match in a row, reports Xinhua.
Both sides needed some time to implement their rhythm and strategy to the match. Home side Freiburg soon controlled the proceedings on the pitch as Stuttgart's build-up play remained imperfect.
The host dangerously approached Stuttgart's goal with opportunities by Cedrick Makiadi, Daniel Caligiuri, Jonathan Schmid and Julian Schuster.
Sure enough Freiburg were rewarded for their efforts as Jan Rosenthal broke the deadlock with 22 minutes into the match when he scored from 18 metres into the bottom near corner.
Bruno Labbadia's side remained sloppy and inattentive so that Freiburg were able to double their lead after the restart.
Pavel Krmas capitalised on a spill by Stuttgart goalkeeper Sven Ulreich following a free kick cross to slot home into the open goal in the 67th minute.
Finally, Max Kruse made it three on the scoreboard when he used a header by Caliguiri to seal three points on home soil.
"We won against a strong away team, which had, however, three days earlier a though match in the Europa League. But the way how we won this game is a great pleasure for us," Christian Streich said.
Elsewhere, Leverkusen inflicted Hoffenheim the seventh loss of the season to compound the worst-ever start into a Bundesliga season.
Lars Bender opened the scoring for Leverkusen until Daniel Carvajal doubled the lead before the break. Hoffenheim's Fabian Johnson was only able to score the 2-1 consolation for his side.
Augsburg gave away a neat lead as Patrick Herrmann's lob denied the hosts the second win of the season. Sasche Moelder broke the deadlock for Augsburg with five minutes into the match until Herrmann levelled the score five minute before final whistle.
