For Patrick Mahomes Sr., getting back to Arrowhead will come with a few rules attached. A Texas judge has approved his request to leave the state for upcoming Kansas City Chiefs home games while he continues serving probation. The former MLB pitcher had asked for permission to travel for games in three cities, hoping to watch his son from the stands again. He got the green light for Kansas City, but the court did not approve every trip he requested.
Pat Mahomes Sr. gets permission for Chiefs games
Mahomes Sr. filed the request in Smith County, Texas, as he remained under a five-year probation sentence from his 2024 DWI case. The ruling allowed him to attend games at Arrowhead Stadium, but his plans for Las Vegas and Cincinnati were turned down.
That meant he could not make the Chiefs' recent trip to Las Vegas, where Patrick Mahomes helped Kansas City escape the Raiders 30-27. The December game in Cincinnati against the Bengals is off the list too.
There are conditions attached to the approved travel. According to court documents cited by TMZ, Mahomes Sr. must submit to urine testing if his probation officer requests it before and after each trip. He has completed 160 hours of community service and an outpatient alcohol treatment program. His probation officer also reported no problems with his SCRAM alcohol monitor or drug and alcohol testing.
Patrick Mahomes' father faced another probation issue
The court ruling came after a difficult stretch for the Mahomes family. Mahomes Sr. pleaded guilty in August 2024 to a DWI charge and accepted five years of probation, including one year of intense supervision. His arrest came months earlier in Tyler, Texas, where authorities recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.23.
Then, in February 2026, he faced another issue while on probation after authorities accused him of consuming alcohol. That kept his legal situation in focus even as his son returned to the field.
Patrick Mahomes had spoken about the effect of his father's 2024 arrest during the Chiefs' Super Bowl run. “I think just knowing that it hurt me woke him up to know that like, you can't keep doing the same things,” he said on Chiefs Kingdom.
Mahomes Sr. later admitted how difficult that period was for him. “For him to have to answer questions about me was probably the most embarrassing thing I've ever been through in my life,” he said.
With Kansas City sitting at 4-0 heading into its bye, the latest court decision means Mahomes Sr. can once again watch his son at Arrowhead, though only under the limits set by the judge.
