New Delhi:
Former Australian captain Steve Waugh, whose name is making rounds as one of the possible replacement for sacked Kolkata Knight Riders coach John Buchanan, on Friday dismissed the speculation saying he had no plan to take up the job.
"Twenty20 is an exciting format. It's surely captured people's imagination. I like watching it. But coaching-wise I'm not so sure. It's not my priority yet," said Waugh, the 168-Test veteran with over 10,000 runs to his credit along with 92 wickets.
Waugh, who is presently too busy with his charity work through Steve Waugh Foundation for children, insisted he doesn't have any plans to take up the coaching job now.
"I don't know about the future but at the moment I am certainly not doing it as I have no time," he said on the sidelines of a programme to launch the India chapter of Steve Waugh Foundation Global.
Waugh, who alongwith Buchanan propelled Australia to greater heights and the aura of invincibility, was outspoken in pointing out where his former coach erred during his stint with the KKR.
"I think it was the support staff," Waugh said in reply to a query where Buchanan went wrong while dealing with the KKR team. "May be the fact that Buchanan had brought all his support staff from Australia was his mistake. He should have blended it together with those from India because the conditions and atmosphere here is different," he said.
Waugh was also surprised by Delhi Daredevil's captain Virender Sehwag's decision not to play world's highest wicket taking fast bowler Glenn McGrath in a single match of the IPL-II in South Africa.
"I am amazed," he said, adding that, "But you can ask Mr Sehwag why didn't he pick him (McGrath) for any match. I would have definitely picked him if I was the captain. He is undoubtedly one of the best bowler," he said.
McGrath had finished with the best economy rate for his team in the inaugural edition of the cash rich Twenty20 tournament.
