English spinner reported for suspect action

London :

An offspinner dubbed the "English Murali" has been reported to the England and Wales Cricket Board for a suspected illegal bowling action.

Maurice Holmes, who has played just one league match for English county Warwickshire, was reported by umpires twice in the past month.

If the reports are confirmed by the umpires, the 21-year-old Holmes' action will be examined by the ECB. He can continue playing for Warwickshire until a decision is made by the ECB.

Holmes has been compared to Muttiah Muralitharan because his action is similar to that of the Sri Lankan great, who took 800 test wickets before retiring after this year's World Cup. It is Holmes' "doosra" - the offspinner's googly and Muralitharan's trademark delivery - that is believed to be the area of concern.
