Cairo:
Amr Zaki scored twice in the final minutes and gave Egypt a 4-2 victory over Senegal on Thursday to win the LG Cup, a friendly tournament seen as the dress rehearsal for the Africa Cup of Nations.
Zaki broke a 2-2 tie with a goal in the 86th minute and added another four minutes into injury time to give Egypt the crown and the winner's purse of $50,000.
Uganda beat World Cup-bound Ecuador 2-1 earlier Thursday to claim third place.
Begun in 1997 and staged mostly throughout Asia and Africa, this year's LG Cup is preparation for the Africa Cup in Egypt Jan. 20-Feb. 10. Egypt and Senegal have qualified for the 16-team event.
Senegal led in the second minute on a goal by Remon Mandi, but Egypt rallied on tallies by Hassan Mustafa in the 15th and another by Emad Meteb in the 23rd. Senegal's Mamado Leone tied the match again in the 50th minute.
In the earlier match, Geoffrey Massa and Martin Mwanga scored six minutes apart early in the second half to rally Uganda for the win. It was the second loss in three days for the Ecuadoreans, headed to their second straight World Cup in June.
Ivan Kaviedes put the South Americans ahead in the second minute, but Massa equalized with a header off a corner in the 48th and Mwanga scored the winner with another header from a corner in the 54th. (AP)
